Historic Landmarks You’ll See From the Water
Taking a sightseeing cruise around Annapolis offers a perspective of “America’s Sailing Capital” that you simply can’t get from land. As we navigate the calm waters of the harbor, Spa Creek, and the Severn River, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted, front-row views of Maryland’s most celebrated historic sites:
-
United States Naval Academy Waterfront: Cruising along the mouth of the Severn River gives passengers a breathtaking panoramic view of “The Yard.” From the water, you can admire the granite seawalls, sprawling parade grounds, and dramatic Beaux-Arts architecture. Prominently featured on the skyline is the copper dome of the Naval Academy Chapel—where naval hero John Paul Jones is enshrined—and Bancroft Hall, one of the largest dormitory buildings in the world.
-
Maryland State House: Piercing the Annapolis skyline, the iconic wooden dome of the Maryland State House is visible from multiple angles throughout the harbor. Completed in 1779, it is the oldest state capitol in continuous legislative use and briefly served as the nation’s capital. Seeing this historic structure towering over 18th-century brick rooftops from the deck of our boat offers a remarkable glimpse into American history.
-
City Dock & “Ego Alley”: As our boat glides into the heart of downtown Annapolis, you’ll experience the famous waterway known affectionately as “Ego Alley.” Historically the bustling colonial hub for tobacco trading and fishing fleets, this narrow inlet is now world-renowned for showcasing luxurious motor yachts, classic wooden sailboats, and vibrant waterfront dining spots.
-
Historic Spa Creek & Eastport: Cruising up Spa Creek reveals a charming mix of maritime heritage and modern nautical life. You’ll pass under the historic Spa Creek Drawbridge, connecting mainland Annapolis to the historic maritime neighborhood of Eastport. Along the shoreline, you’ll see grand 18th- and 19th-century waterfront estates nestled alongside active boatyards and classic wooden vessel restorations.
-
The Severn River Shoreline & Harbor Approaches: Heading out toward the open waters of the Severn River, you’ll take in sweeping views of the historic Annapolis harbor mouth. This scenic stretch offers panoramic sightlines back toward the downtown waterfront, highlighting the lush, tree-lined shores of Greenbury Point, the historic naval grounds, and the magnificent waterfront estates lining the banks of Wardour and Spa Creek.
Experience the Magic of an Annapolis Sunset Cruise
There is no better way to close out the day than aboard our Annapolis Sunset Cruise. As late afternoon shifts to dusk, the waters of the Annapolis Harbor transform into a tranquil, golden haven. A sunset boat ride provides a completely different visual experience than daytime tours, casting the entire historic cityscape in a warm, amber glow.
As the sun begins to set over the western shore, watch the sky paint vibrant shades of deep orange, pink, and purple behind the historic dome of the Maryland State House and the spires of downtown Annapolis. The waters of Spa Creek and the Severn River calm down, reflecting the brilliant colors of the twilight sky and the soft, twinkling lights of boats returning to their slips.
Onboard our custom charters—whether you’re relaxing on the intimate Annapolis Girl or celebrating on The Annapolis Lady—you can cue up your favorite playlist on our Bluetooth sound system, unpack your favorite BYOB beverages and snacks, and toast to an unforgettable evening. As dusk falls, you’ll witness the city dock lights flicker to life along Ego Alley and see the Naval Academy waterfront illuminated against the evening sky. Whether you are planning a romantic date night, an evening outing with friends, or a memorable family gathering, our sunset cruise delivers an atmosphere of unmatched relaxation and timeless Chesapeake charm.
